FAQ
Questions worth asking
Is low-dose naltrexone FDA approved for chronic pain?
No. Naltrexone is FDA approved for opioid- and alcohol-related indications at standard doses; low-dose use for chronic pain or inflammation-related conditions is off label.
Can LDN be used with opioid medication?
Naltrexone blocks opioid receptors and can create serious problems for people using opioid medications or with opioid dependence. A clinician must review all prescriptions, nonprescription products and recent opioid exposure.
How strong is the evidence for LDN and pain?
The evidence is evolving and varies by condition. A recent randomized-trial meta-analysis found mixed results overall, with a signal in fibromyalgia but increased adverse events versus placebo. It should not be marketed as a proven universal pain treatment.
Does online LDN care replace a pain evaluation?
No. New weakness, loss of bowel or bladder control, chest pain, severe injury, fever with pain or other red flags need urgent or in-person assessment.
